THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority (KSLMA) is all set to roll out a massive campaign seeking maximum enrolment for its Class X and Higher Secondary equivalency courses.The Class X equivalency course launched in 2006 is now imparted in Mahe, Lakshadweep and the Gulf countries in addition to Kerala. The Higher Secondary equivalency course, for humanities and commerce groups, was launched in 2013. Cooperation and Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran will launch the registration campaign on Tuesday at Chennilodu Colony in Kumaraparum in the capital.

Class X Equivalency

Any person who is 17 years and above and has passed Class VII or Class VII equivalency course of KSLMA are eligible for this course. Those who pass the Class X equivalency course will be eligible for higher studies and the preliminary appointment of PSC. They will also be eligible for promotion. The course, originally launched in Malayalam medium, is now available in Kannada and Tamil. While KSLMA conducts the 10-month course, the examinations are conducted by the Board of Public Examination.All subjects included in the SSLC course have also been incorporated in the Class X equivalency course. Candidates can enrol for the course till July 31. The contact classes will be held at select schools on Sundays and public holidays. District Project Coordinators, course conveners and centre coordinators have been appointed to ensure a smooth conduct of the course.

Class XII Equivalency

Any person who has passed the Class X equivalency examination or could not continue higher studies after SSLC are eligible to apply. The course has many takers among those who could not complete the Higher Secondary course or write the public examination. During the time of registration, the applicant should have completed 22 years as on June 1.
The course is of two years’ duration. All subjects in Humanities and Commerce groups are available in the equivalency course. The registration and admission fee is Rs 300 and the course fee is Rs 1,950.  The exam fees will be informed later by the Board of Public Examination. The course material will be distributed to the students through the district offices of KSLMA.
