THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: IN the wake of increasing atrocities against women and children in the state, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has said the state government should take steps for creating social awareness against the menace. The Opposition was ready to cooperate with any initiative the government takes in the regard, he said.“Thirteen police officers have been suspended in the last month alone in respect of cases related to atrocities against women and children. The Home Department is a total failure and the Chief Minister has lost control over the police.”

When asked about former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s name being proposed for the KPCC president, Chennithala said, “I had held talks with Chandy. But he said he was not interested for the post.”
On the delay in appointing a new chief, he said the delay was only because Congress president Sonia Gandhi was abroad. Once she comes back, a new chief would be appointed, he said.
