Amusement park to come up at Vilappilsala

The park will be built by private companies on a built-operate-and-transfer (BOT) basis

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The controversial 46 acres plot at Vilappilsala is back in reckoning. The city corporation has decided to set up an amusement park.

The decision was revealed by the Deputy Mayor and the chairperson of Finance Standing Committee, Rakhi Ravikumar during budget presentation.  He said the park will be built by private companies on a built-operate-and-transfer (BOT) method. The plot surrounded by lush greenery housed a centralised waste management system which proved to be a failure and was closed in 2011. Many projects including a college, university campus, herbal garden were planned in the area after the closure of the waste management plant. But nothing materialised so far. This time the corporation allocated Rs 2 crore for the project and if it becomes a reality, the area located 15 kilometres away from the city, will be the sought-after destination for families.

Apart from the amusement park the budget talks about projects like women safety, waste management, education, welfare, infrastructure development, health etc.
