THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: On the heels of his department ranking No 2 in the Kerala Anti-Corruption Index, Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan has instructed top revenue officials to adopt a stern stance against graft.

The Principal Secretary, Revenue, and the Land Revenue Commissioner have been instructed to step up monitoring of revenue offices by conducting lightning inspections and periodical reviews.
They have also been asked to streamline the operations of the revenue vigilance wing and, if needed, form anti-corruption squads at the taluk level.
Corrupt officials should be suspended from service or transferred to other districts, the minister said.
The Revenue Department is second only to the Local Self-Government Department in corruption, accounting for 9.24 per cent of the total corruption in government departments. The corruption index was published online the other day by the Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau.
