THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM alleged the BJP Government at the Centre was creating avenues for money laundering through amendments in Companies Act that permit corporates to donate to political parties without any sealing.

Speaking at a press conference, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury criticised the government’s decision to introduce the Finance Bill in the Rajya Sabha on a Friday evening. Usually no official business is carried out on Friday evenings. The government’s attempt was to smuggle about 40 legislation - amendments to major legislation like the Copyright Act, Income Tax Act and Companies Act, Yechury alleged.

“The amendments to the Act is being brought as part of the Bill. The clause for ‘limit of 7.5 pc of the net profit’ and ‘the need for the corporates to disclose to which party the contribution is being made’ have been deleted. It’s a single window for high-level corruption. This will also lead to major money laundering,” Yechury alleged. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s so-called anti-corruption moves are an eye wash, alleged Yechury. It’s a cover-up to make corruption easy, he said.

Communal polarisation

Yechury accused the RSS of trying to create communal polarisation in the country. Stating that the BJP, during the polls, attempted to create communal polarisation in Uttar Pradesh, Yechury said the organisation has been indulging in communal polarisation, violence and communal clashes, he alleged.

The CPM general secretary said after Manipur, the BJP and RSS are now targeting Tripura. “The RSS has come out with a resolution against the CPM accusing it of political violence in its Coimbatore conference. It’s a game plan they have been following for long. After the polls, nine CPM workers in Kerala were killed by RSS men. The RSS has been indulging in activities targeting the CPM government in Kerala. That is why they tried to threaten Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and tried to block him at Mangalore,” he said.

Similarly they declared to stop him at Hyderabad.

“The CPM has been a constant Opposition to RSS’ attempts to destabilise the country. The RSS agenda is to convert India from a secular democratic republic to a Hindu Rashtra,” Yechury alleged.
