THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister K K Shylaja on Thursday called on Union Minister of State for AYUSH   ( ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, unani, siddha and homoeopathy)  Shripad Yasso Naik and submitted a list of proposals for the AYUSH sector’s development in Kerala.“The Union Minister said he would favourably  consider the requests,” she said.

Shylaja said a major proposal was to set up an international ayurveda research centre in Kannur.The proposed ayurveda research centre,which would be set up at a cost of `300 crore,would include facilities for conducting clinical research, pharmacology research and preventive research. Besides, it will have a  herbal garden and library.  The project aims to empower the ayurveda tradition of the state and to showcase it before the world with the backing of research, she said. According to Shylaja, the Union Minister asked her to submit a detailed project report on the proposed research facility to the Centre.

Besides, the state sought `two crore Central grant for conducting an international seminar and ayurveda expo. The seminar will deal with different topics like ayurveda treatment methods, ayurveda industry, medicinal wealth, ayurveda healthstyle for disease prevention and reduction of lifestyle diseases. A global ayurveda business meet would also be held as part of the event.
