A youth, who met with a fatal accident gave a lease of life to three persons.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A youth, who met with a fatal accident gave a lease of life to three persons. Respecting the wish of  22-year-old Manu Mohan, his family agreed to donate his organs after death, Manu’s father Mohanan and mother Beena  agreed to donate his kidneys and liver setting a brilliant example.

Manu, who met with an accident on May 14 was undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital, where he was declared brain dead on Saturday. Manu, of Puthenveettil in Kaivanvila, Nellimoodu here, was working as a housekeeper at the Trivandrum International Airport.
The youngster was on his way from the festival at Nellimoodu church last Sunday when his bike skidded on a wet road at Kaivanvila. Manu sustained serious injuries on head and was rushed to the PRS Hospital at Killipalam here.

He was taken to the Medical College but was shifted to the KIMS Hospital due to non-availability of ventilators at the Medical College. On Wednesday, he was moved to the Medical College where he was declared brain dead on Saturday.  Based on a direction from Health Minister K K Shylaja, the brain death was confirmed based on international guidelines.
“We want him to live through others,” said Manu’s father Mohanan flanked by Manu’s brother Jinu Mohan.
