THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: THE government is aiming at bringing uniformity in pre-primary education sector with the aim of nurturing talents of children right from an early age, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Monday. The Chief Minister was releasing workbooks and other aids prepared by the State Council For Educational Research and Training (SCERT) for teachers involved in the education of children with special needs.

The Chief Minister noted it was saddening that some institutions were charging a donation of up to `5 lakh for admission in pre-primary section.

“Currently, pre-primary education sector is scattered in anganwadis, nurseries attached to schools and institutions run by individuals and corporates. The SCERT is attempting to evolve a uniform system in the sector,” Pinarayi said.

To ensure excellence in children, their education should be in a systematic manner. To achieve the objective, SCERT has come out with a curriculum. It is for the first time that a distinct curriculum for children with special needs in the age group of seven to 11 years has been prepared, the Chief Minister said.

Education Minister C Raveendranath who presided over the function said the government’s aim was to ensure that no section is marginalised as a result of the modernisation of education. He said autism parks would be set up in each constituency for children with special needs. The Chief Minister handed over a total of 17 books brought out by SCERT to the Education Minister.

Free uniform scheme will boost handloom sector, says CM
T’Puram:  THE government’s free uniform scheme for lower primary school students will help revive the sagging handloom sector, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Monday. The Chief Minister was speaking after carrying out the state-level inauguration of the distribution of free school uniform to children of government and aided schools.

The Chief Minister called the scheme as a major achievement of the government during its one-year rule. The move to distribute handloom materials as uniform will ensure job security and also contribute towards better wages for weavers, he said. From next year, handloom uniform material will be provided for students up to Class XII, Pinarayi said.  He urged Hantex and Hanveev to distribute handloom materials at a lower price to salvage the sector and create a stable market for handloom material.
