Lawyers’ stand against journos not right: PCI chief

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chairman of Press Council of India Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad said he would intervene in ending restriction imposed on journalists from covering courts in the state. The issue would be discussed with the High Court Chief Justice.
Justice Prasad was speaking at a media seminar organised jointly by Kerala Journalists Union and PCI.
Coming down on lawyers, the chairman said those who are bound to accept the Constitution should not forgo the legacy of justice delivery mechanism. He said the lawyers’ decision against representing  journalists in court cases was not right.

Senior media personalities participated in the  seminar - Ethical Journalism - Role of the Press Council- held in association with the golden jubilee celebration of PCI.
Justice Prasad said he would consider the demand of senior journalist on the court ban.

Governor Justice (retired) P Sathasivam inaugurated the seminar.  He congratulated the positive role played by the media in society but reminded of the need to strengthen the ethical standards in journalistic practices.
He said periodic wage revision and other facilities for journalists should be carried out to ensure that mediapersons can live in dignity and perform their work fearlessly and independently.
