Fun-filled days ahead for movie lovers

Film Lovers Cultural Association film festival will begin at University Students Centre on Friday

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Adoor Gopalakrishnan will inaugurate the 17th Film Lovers Cultural Association (Filca) film festival on November 24 at the University Students Centre here.   
‘Impossible’ directed by J A Bayona and the ‘Lady of the Lake’ by Haobam Paban Kumar will open the seven day film festival. As many as 40 films will be screened at the festival organised with the cooperation of Kerala State Film Academy  Goethe Centre and Federation of Film society. As part of the festival, Theatron president Dr Ambi, photographer Sivan (Sivan Studio), Kerala Chalachitra Academy Chairman Kamal and Academy Vice Chairperson Beena Paul will be felicitated.

The festival will cover a wide section that includes Malayalam cinema, Indian cinema, world cinema, short and documentary sections. This years festival will have Germany as the country in focus. The films of Babak Anvari and Krzysztof Kieslowsk are included in the retro section.  Alifa (Deepa Choudhury), Bokul ( Reema Borah), Sooryakantha (M Surendran), Bird with the Golden Wing (Bobby Sarma Baruah) are included in the India Cinema section. Cesar Augusto Acevedo’s Land and Shade, Pablo Aguero’s Eva Doesnt Sleep, Benoit Jacquot’s Diary of a Chambermaid, Deniz Gamze Erguven’s Mustang are some of the films screened in World Cinema section.

Kaviyude Osiayath by Vineeth Anil, Kanamarayathu by I V Sasi, Ottayaalpaatha by Santosh Babusenan and Pinneyum by Adoor Goapalakrishnan are a few films in the Malayalam section.   
In the short and documentary section, Venu Nair’s Raja Ravi Varma, Sathya Babu’s In/Visible, Jibin George James’ Santhwanam will be screened. A homage section is also included that will screen K R Mohanan’s Swaroopam.
