THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Around 200 students from selected government and aided schools in Nemom and Vamanapuram block panchayats in the capital will be provided awareness on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and ways to control and prevent them. The programme will be held at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Peroorkada on Saturday. Tilted ‘District NCD Summit’, the programme is being organised by Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), in association with the state Health Services Department. 

The event will begin at 10 am with competitions such as elocution, innovative idea contest and cross-challenge. This will be followed by a quiz competition and poster presentation. The participants will also meet celebrities and interact with them. Assistant Excise Commissioner Muhammed Ubaid S will conduct an awareness class on anti-drug addiction in the afternoon. This will be followed by a short drama on anti-drug additction staged by the Excise Department. 

A public meeting and award distribution will follow. K Muraleedharan, MLA will inaugurate the public meeting. A report of NCD survey will be released by Dr K R Thankappan, Emeritus Professor, Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies (AMCHSS).

District panchayat president V K Madhu will preside over the function. Dr V Raman Kutty, Head of the Department of AMCHSS and District Medical Officer (Health) Dr Preetha P P will speak on the occasion. Higher Secondary Regional Deputy Director Jayasree S, Govt GHSS Peroorkada principal Biju LP and headmistress Meena ML will offer felicitations.
