Aid for National award-winning artist Sunitha Thrippanikkara

The state government will provide financial assistance to Sunitha Thrippanikkara from Kannur who won the national award in mouth painting.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government will provide financial assistance to Sunitha Thrippanikkara from Kannur who won the national award in mouth painting. This was announced by Social Justice Minister K K Shailaja who rang up Sunitha and congratulated her.

The minister said the government will bear the travel and related expenses of Sunitha who is set to receive the award in New Delhi from the President on December 3.

Due to muscular dystrophy, Sunitha’s body gradually lost its strength. Later, she was unable to use her hands or walk. Sunitha is a member of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Association based in Switzerland since 2004.  She has conducted solo exhibitions in Puducherry and Singapore.

The minister said the state is proud of artists like Sunitha, who has overcome her physical constraints to make her mark in the world of art. Shailaja said such talents deserve international recognition.
