THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The patient care at the Peroorkada district hospital will get a boost with the hospital launching five major projects initiated by the district panchayat. As part of the development, the hospital will have HLL Hindlabs, Amrita pharmacy, Jan Aushadhi medical store and digital X-Ray facility. The renovated operation theatre with all modern facilities has also been opened.

K Muraleedharan MLA, who inaugurated the development projects at the hospital on Friday, said this could give a facelift to the hospital. Almost all the facilities are now available at the hospital, which could help the patients, especially the poor patients, he said.

He also said the new developments should be effectively used for providing the best treatment to those who come at the hospital. District panchayat president V K Madhu said the operation theatre was renovated with an amount of `25 lakh from the district panchayat fund. The operation theatre has been renovated within a short period of four months and has all the modern facilities, he said. Apart from this a digital x-ray facility costing about `27 lakh has been set up.

On the development initiatives that the district panchayat proposes to take up at the hospital, he said six to eight dialysis units will be soon set up here. The recreation hall at the hospital that is now not in use would be renovated to house the dialysis unit, he said. The works for renovating the old block and setting up the casualty department here was progressing and an amount of `17 lakh has been sanctioned for the project, he said.

Madhu said several institutions and organisations have helped in the development of the hospital. It was for the first time that Hind labs and Jan Aushadhi were being set up in a district hospital, he said. Amrita pharmacy is the second in the state to be opened with the support of a local body. At the pharmacy, the patients can get medicines and surgical equipment  at 40 percent discount.

District panchayat members, HLL Lifecare Ltd technical director Subramanian, Jan Aushadhi State nodal officer Chandrasekharan Pillai, DPM Dr Swapnakumari, hospital superintendent Dr Valsala and others were present at the function.
