Kerala Women’s Commission hand over threat letters to DGP

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Women's Commission on Friday handed over the threat letters, which were addressed to its chairperson M C Josephine, to State Police Chief Loknath Behera for detailed investigation.

The letters and the human excreta had been sent via post to Josephine after the Commission registered a case against MLA P C George for his defamatory remarks against the actress who was abducted and assaulted in Kochi in February.

“I will not succumb to threats or provocation. The Commission will function as usual,” Josephine said. The Speaker was informed of the case registered against George. An explanation has not yet been received from the latter owing to the Assembly session and his foreign trip. Now that he has returned from the trip, the Commission will soon record his statement. The Commission said it registered a case against George after obtaining legal opinion.

Commission director U V Kuriakose has been entrusted with the inquiry into the alleged objectionable remarks by George. The actress had told the Commission the MLA’s remarks had hurt her, Josephine said.
