THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  A wanted criminal Biju alias Ernakulam Biju , who went absconding after giving the police a slip, was arrested by the Tamil Nadu Q Branch unit at Nagercoil. Biju, 37, a native of Vellanad, had gone absconding in April while he was being taken to Thiruvananthapuram with a police escort after being produced in a court in Neyyattinkara.

He had escaped after riding pillion on the bike of his accomplice ‘Parakkumthalika’ Biju, who was closely following the police team on their return from the court.     Parakumthalika Biju was later arrested by the police while Ernakulam Biju went absconding in Tamil Nadu.   The Tamil Nadu police also arrested a couple from Thiruvallam who had assisted Biju in selling the stolen items.

The police had received information that they were the relatives of Biju’s wife. As per information received from sources, Biju is being interrogated at Nagercoil and is likely to be produced before the magistrate at Nagercoil on Monday.

According to K S Gopakumar, Fort Assistant Commissioner of Police, the Kerala Police will take him into custody after submitting a custody application in the Tamil Nadu Court once he is remanded in judicial custody.

“We will take him into custody this week itself and he will be produced before the magistrate on Monday,” he said.
