THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Legislative Assembly on Tuesday congratulated the Kerala football team on winning the Santosh Trophy after 14 years. The state will celebrate Victory Day on April 6 when the government will honour the team at a function to be held in Central Kerala. The Kerala players will be given deserving recognition, including cash awards, Sports Minister A C Moideen said.
Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan appreciated them for the noticeable performance. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the fact that the team won the cup without losing a single match adds to the performance. In an effort to develop the sports talent in the state, the government has been coming up with measures to ‘catch them young’. Only then we can ensure nurturing sports talents here, Pinarayi said. Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala said the team should be recognised and rewarded in an appropriate manner. The government should take steps to ensure adequate infrastructure for them.
