Panel intervenes in marriage of Muslim bride

The state women’s commission has directed a Jama’ath Committee to revoke the suspension of a bride and her family members in connection with a marriage ceremony.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state women’s commission has directed a Jama’ath Committee to revoke the suspension of a bride and her family members in connection with a marriage ceremony.  The commission’s action came in the wake of Kaniyapuram Jama’ath Committee refusing to register the marriage and recommending disciplinary action against the bride’s family on charges that the marriage was conducted in violation of Islamic principles.

The Jama’ath committee members had walked out of the marriage ceremony after the customary address by the Imam was avoided. They also took exception to the bridegroom and his relatives directly conducting the marriage.
