Organic theatre to be launched today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:Cultural Minister A K Balan and Agriculture Minister V S Sunil Kumar will jointly inaugurate the Organic Theatre organised by Bharat Bhavan on Wednesday at 11 am.  The inauguration of harvesting will be held at 10 acres of land at Kalamachal paddy field at Vamanapuram in the outskirts of the city. Organic Theatre is a concept of linking theatre with agriculture.

About 50 persons, including farmers and theatre artists, will participate in the event followed by the workshop on Friday and Saturday. The workshop will be led by  K Ushakumari, professor, Soil Science Department, Kerala Agricultural University, Suresh, DRTC trainer, theatre personality Pramod Payyannur, Aliyar, Vattaparambil Peethambaran and Raja Warrier.

Those who are genuinely interested in both farming and theatre can get involved in the process. “As part of the initiative, we will find one acre of land in all 14 districts to start organic farming,” a top officer of Bharat Bhavan said.  Those who come forward to do farming will be provided with all guidelines and instructions from a panel of experts. “In three months, the land will be converted into a farmland growing paddy or vegetables,” the officer added.

Organic Theatre aims to start cultivation in one or two acres with the participation of the local population, theatre artists and Agriculture Department officials. Theatre rehearsals will also be held in the area so that farming and theatre culture in the area is revived.  

Bharat Bhavan member-secretary Pramod Payyannur said the workshop will be held in association with Viva Cultural Development Organisation is aimed at the creation of a new farming culture.
