Chalachitra Academy honours M F Thomas

The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy felicitated M F Thomas at the Bharat Bhavan for completing 50 years in the film industry.

TIRUVANANTHAPURAM :  Many can write a film review but not everyone can write like Thomas, opined filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan who was speaking at an event to honour Malayalam film critic M F Thomas. The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy felicitated him at the Bharat Bhavan on Monday for completing 50 years in the film industry.

Appreciating the initiative taken up by the academy and its associate members to honour Thomas, Adoor was excited to present the memento to his friend.  “I feel nowadays he is very lazy in his work. Thomas always tells me that he’s getting old. But, I feel for people like Thomas it is their way of thinking that determines their age. He is a person whose active participation is required in cinemas. “His reviews are essential for the coming generation to know the difference between good and bad films,” said Adoor.

There are many people who work behind the scene and make an equal contribution to the success of the films. But of which only a few may get noticed, said director and Chalachitra academy chairman Kamal.
Film critic V K Joseph, also secretary of the Federation of Film Societies of India- Kerala felt Thomas is a person who celebrates success in silence. While appreciating Thomas’ disciplined nature, Joseph hoped that it would be a come back for him.

In his reply, Thomas didn’t mince any words to share his excitement. “It feels like I have been honoured with a nobel prize. The words shared by my friends and the support I got from them make me feel as if I have become the King here,” said Thomas.
