THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shankar never thought his short film ‘Orukkam’, which was made as part of his academic project, would be selected in the campus film category of the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK).
“I am on a cloud nine. The selection of my film in this prestigious fest itself is a great recognition,” said Shankar, a final-year film diploma student of LV Prasad Film Academy in the city. “The film was made with the full support of my academy. All my classmates were involved in the film, both in the technical and creative sides.”
The 21-minute film deals with the relationship between a bedridden paralysis patient and a male home nurse. It depicts the significance of relationships and loneliness.Though Shankar said ‘Orukkam’ was his maiden venture, his passion for cinema began much earlier.
“I wanted to be a director of mainstream films. Hence, I had applied to become an assistant director in ‘Koode’. I am happy the film is running to packed houses,” said the Kochi native.
Apart from Shankar, many students got an opportunity to screen their films at the fest. ‘Kadha Ithu Vare’ is one such film vying for top honours in the short film category. Anas, an aspiring filmmaker from Kochi, said the quality of short films at the fest is impressive.
“We got a chance to watch some serious short films and documentaries conveying powerful messages and ideologies,” he said.
