Defence agencies observe Yoga Day

Defence agencies in the city organised yoga sessions to mark the International Yoga Day celebrations on Thursday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Defence agencies in the city organised yoga sessions to mark the International Yoga Day celebrations on Thursday. The Indian Army units located at the Pangode military station conducted a mass yoga event at the Colachel Stadium, Pangode, in the morning, in which around 550 military personnel, 150 families and 600 students from the Army Public School and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pangode, participated.

Air Marshal R K S Bhadauria, Air officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command (SAC), led the celebrations at the SAC headquarters at Akkulam. The fourth International Yoga Day was celebrated at the Air Force Station at Shanghumugham in which more than a 100 personnel attended. Group Captain Praveen Kumar Awasthi, the station commander, was also present at the event in which the participants practised pranayama, various asanas and suryanamaskar, the Air Force said in a statement.  

The day was also celebrated at the Coast Guard station at Vizhinjam in which Coast Guard Commandant V K Varghese and Deputy Commandant George Baby were present. Cadets of 2, Kerala NCC Battalion held a yoga session at St Mary’s School, Pattom. A Yoga session was also held at the NCC Kerala and Lakshadweep Directorate, Vazhuthacaud. Shani S J, administrative assistant at the NCC, led the session.

Sainik School Kazhakootam also joined the national and international community in celebrating the day. A function was held at the ‘Sam Manekshaw Arena’ at the school in which several students, principal Colonel V K S Rawat, administrative officer Lieutenant Colonel B Girish Kumar, vice-principal Lieutenant Commander Parichay Kalra were present. A message from Prime Minister was also read.
