Yoga Day celebrations at Raj Bhavan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: By practising yoga, we not only enhance our energy but also pay respect to the Indian tradition of health, Governor P Sathasivam said on Thursday.

Performing yoga at the celebrations organised at the Raj Bhavan in connection with the International Yoga Day, he urged everyone to take up the practice of yoga. “Besides, the health of each individual contributes to the nation’s health. Through yoga, we are working towards a healthier India,” he said. Dr Prakash Ramakrishnan led the session at the Raj Bhavan.

“At the Raj Bhavan, we have been observing Yoga Day regularly. Last year also Dr Prakash had given us a session in which many of our staff had participated. This year, I am happy that more people have joined it,” Sathasivam said. Ever since the first International Day of Yoga was observed all over the world on June 21, 2015, thousands of people have taken it up, he said.

“It signifies the unity of thought and action and shows a holistic path to health and well-being,” he said. The aim of Yoga Day is to raise awareness about yoga, which is, a physical, mental and spiritual activity, he said. “The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word yuja, which symbolises the union of body and the mind,” he said.

2,000 participants at SAI LNCPE

T’Puram: About 2,000 people participated in a yoga session at the SAI Lakshmibhai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE) stadium to celebrate the 4th International Day of Yoga on Thursday.  The function began at 7 am and G Kishore, principal of College of Physical Education  and regional director of SAI Kerala region, addressed the gathering.
