Anganwadi workers, helpers to get new uniforms

Anganwadi workers and helpers in the state will soon sport a new look as the Social Justice Department has decided to provide them with two new sets of uniforms.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Anganwadi workers and helpers in the state will soon sport a new look as the Social Justice Department has decided to provide them with two new sets of uniforms. With this, a specially designed sari will now replace the overcoat. According to the department, the new design has been selected through a competition conducted among Anganwadi workers in the state.

“With this, 33,115 Anganwadi workers and 32,986 Anganwadi helpers will get a new uniform. An amount of ` 3.96 crore has been earmarked for the said project,” said K K Shylaja, Social Justice Minister.
According to the minister, while Anganwadi workers will wear a golden yellow sari with a red border, the helpers will wear sky-blue sari with a violet border.

The saris will also bear the logo of the Integrated Child Development Service. According to the department, an e-tender which was floated as part of the said initiative was attended by 13 companies and among them, the Kerala State Industries Enterprises Ltd, which quotes the lowest tender, has been awarded the contract for the distribution of uniforms.
