THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Attingal police on Saturday arrested a 22-year-old youth for allegedly murdering his father following a brawl. The arrested is Sarath, a resident of Punnakkavilakathu veedu, Avanavancherry, Attingal. According to the police, the incident took place on Friday night at Sarath’s residence when his father Sasidharan Pillai entered into a heated argument with him over giving food to the domestic dog.

Sasidharan and Sarath were under the influence of alcohol and this made them verbally abusing each other. Sasidharan was earlier convicted of a POCSO case. Since then Sarath had some issues with him. When the argument turned worse, Sarath took a scissor kept in the house and stabbed on his abdomen.

By that time, Sarath’s mother turned up and pleaded him to take his father to the hospital. Though they took him to a nearby hospital, he was declared brought dead. Later, the hospital authorities informed the police who took Sarath into the custody. He has been produced before the magistrate and was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days, said the police.
