Works have started and the first phase, the construction of the ground floor, is to be completed by spending Rs 75 lakh in association with Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Project (KSUDP). The second floor would be completed utilising plan fund.

The centre is coming up in the area where a market was situated. The ground floor will have parking facilities and space for shops that will be rented out. The first floor too will have space for shops. The second floor will house the spacious air-conditioned convention centre, with a seating capacity of more than 1,000.

“The convention centre will be an answer to the need of the area to have an affordable centre for conducting functions. People in the Nanthancode-Kowdiar-Kesavadasapuram area, would benefit out of it. A nominal rate will be charged for conducting functions there,” said Kuravankonam ward councillor P Syamkumar. The rates would be decided by the council on completion of the works.

Preliminary works have been started by the contractor. The parking lot is expected to accommodate as many as 25 vehicles at a time. The structural design is made by the engineering wing of the corporation. Inauguration of the construction activities will be held towards this month end. The entire works are to be completed in two-year’s time.
