The young dancer Manu, who showed his mettle at the youth festival in Palakkad, and his mother Maya can now have a sigh of relief.

The lack of money won’t hinder Manu’s talent from now onwards. Manu, an eighth standard student of Government Higher Secondary School Thonnakkal, here, had secured A grade in folk dance at the state School Youth Festival held recently at Palakkad. It had been a herculean task for Manu and his mother Maya to find the money to meet the expenses of dance training, participating in art competitions, and even the expenses at school.

Sai Gramam Thonnakkal, which came to know about the young artiste’s struggle through media reports, visited Manu’s house at Pukayilathoppu colony at Korani  to extend a helping hand.

“We will be bearing all the expenses for Manu to study, to train in dance and to participate in the arts festivals. The boy and his mother are really struggling for this. He is also learning Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi apart from folk dance. Sai Gramam will sponsor the training for the three dance forms. His talent should be encouraged,” said Sai Gramam executive director K N Ananda Kumar .

His school headmistress S R Ushadevi, class teacher Anupama, PTA president V Rajendran Nair were also present during the visit. Manu’s father had abandoned the family when the boy was five years old. Maya is taking care of the family by working in a near-by dairy farm.

The family comprises Manu, his mother, his brother and his maternal grandfather.
