Aji alias Sarath
The Shadow Police team of the City Police has arrested a person on charges of attempting to sexually abuse several women after giving them false promise of marriage. The arrested was Aji alias Sarath, 35, of Vadakethil House, Chelakara, Thrissur.

The police investigation followed complaints lodged by two women hailing from Nemom and Vizhinjam here. Sarath, who returned from a Gulf country one month ago, was staying at various lodges in the city before landing in police custody.

The police said the accused used to collect phone numbers of women who participated in a reality show on a TV channel which dealt with family problems.

“He contacted the women and lured them for sexual relations offering false marriage promise,” officials said.

The Director General of Police had earlier received complaints from several women on the accused. But the investigation didn’t make any headway as the accused had contacted them via internet calls.

The accused befriended a woman hailing from Ernakulam and promised to marry her. But he withdrew from the marriage in the final stage after the bride’s party printed invitation cards, the police said. He had also tired to abuse a woman hailing from Kottarakkara, the officials said.

The police have seized several post-marriage picture cards in which the accused is seen with different women.

The police team led by Assistant Commissioner K E Baiju which carried out the arrest included Control Room CI Pramod Kumar, Nemom SI Gopakumar and City shadow team members Yasodharan, Sreekumar, Saji Sreekanth, Saji, Ajith and Vinod.
