The delegate cell of IFFK 2012 at Tagore Theatre premises presented a different scenario this year. Shouting, verbal abuse, pushing and shoving, all often considered as the hall mark of the state’s prestigious festival, were missing this time.

Though many would have thought that the ‘fun’ was lost, it assured a smooth beginning to the festival. “The new venue and the pass distribution through banks across the state eliminated the heavy rush at the delegate cell,” said Sandeep Senan, Convenor of the Delegate Cell. “Out of the 6,500 passes given to the 43 selected branches of State Bank of Travancore, only 1,500 were returned to us. Hence, nearly 5,000 passes were distributed even before the commencement of the the delegate cell. Those who had the passes could collect the kit from the counter. Moreover, Tagore Theatre as venue made a sea of difference. We could operate 10 counters instead of the normal two,” he said.

Earlier the delegate cell was operated from Kalabhavan Theatre premises which had lesser facilities compared to the present. 800 more passes were issued later with proper intimation and announcement through news papers.

20 young men and women are at work at the counters and 15 work at the back offices which resulted in easy handling of the crowd. Each delegate could be cleared off from the counter in less than two minutes. The duty at the counters lasted for nearly 12 hours from 8 am on Thursday and Friday.

The counter will continue on Tagore premises for one more day and will then be shifted to the Main venue, Kairaly complex, according to Sandeep.
