THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Abdolvahab’s ‘Please Do Not Disturb’ will be the inaugural film of the 15th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). The film takes a close view of how values and beliefs touch the emotions of people. ‘Please Do Not Disturb’ is Abdolvahab’s first feature film.

Three stories in the backdrop of contemporary Tehran are intertwined in the film. The film also unveils the realities faced by women in their married and re-married lives. The film progresses through the stories of a woman who is all set to file a domestic violence case against her husband, of a Muslim cleric who gets back his lost bag and money after a verbal fight with a thief and of a television mechanic who is caught between a suspicious husband and wife.

Entering the film field as a documentary editor, Abdolvahab has directed as many as 25 documentaries and short films. His documentary ‘The Wives of Haj Abbas’ (2001) has won an award in the Amsterdam film festival.

This year’s IFFK will feature films by four directors in the contemporary masters section, a statement from the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, the organisers, said. Films by Werner Herzog, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Olivier Assayas and Maria Novaro are to be screened in this section.  There will be five films by Werner Herzog - ‘Aguirre the Wrath of God,’ ‘Fitzcarraldo,’ ‘Ecstasy of Woodcutter Steiner,’ ‘Heart of Glass’ and ‘My Best Friend.’

Taiwanese director Weerasethakul’s ‘Uncle Boonmee,’ ‘Syndromes and a Century,’ ‘Tropical Melody’ and ‘Blissfully Yours’ will be screened. Five films by Olivier Assayas will be shown at the festival -  ‘Irmavep,’ ‘Portrait of Hou Hsia-Hsien,’ ‘Le Destines Sentimentals,’ ‘Clean’ and ‘Carlos.’

Mexican director Maria Novaro’s ‘Danzon,’ ‘Lola’, ‘Garden of Eden,’ ‘Without a Trace’ and ‘The Good Herbs’ can be watched.
