Kerala is fast achieving the standards of a developed nation in rendering IT-enabled services, said IT and Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty. He was speaking after launching the ‘e-district public portal and allied services’ of the government here on Friday.

“The mass contact programme being conducted by the Chief Minister is a fight against red-tapism. Problems related with red-tapism could be avoided and transparency and speed can be ensured once the state achieves total implementation of IT-enabled services,” the Minister said.

Industries Principal Secretary P H Kurian said the state could achieve its target of digital state in three years. He said 1,000 new Akshaya centres will be opened in the state soon.

Kurian also called for continuity in operations for achieving digital state status.

“A villager officer in Palakkad was caught red-handed while accepting bribe for issuing a legal heirship certificate the other day. Palakkad is an e-district where such services could be availed of online. Had the public and officials took advantage of it such a case would not have happened,” he said.

Industries and IT secretary K S Sreenivas, General Education Secretary A Shajahan, Land Revenue Commissioner M C Mohandas, IT Mission director P Balakiran, Transport Commissioner Rishi Raj Singh, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests A K Bharadwaj, Police Headquarters IG Manoj Abraham and NIC State Informatics Officer K S Raman spoke.
