42-year-old man booked for raping minor daughter in Visakhapatnam

Dhanaraju, an alcohol addict, in inebriated condition, had raped her daughter several times.

VISAKHAPATNAM: A 42-year-old man was booked for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter for almost two months, on Wednesday. The incident came to light after the mother of the girl approached the police on Tuesday night and lodged a complaint.

The accused has been identified as Dhanaraju, a native of One Town area. "Dhanaraju, an alcohol addict, has not been working for the past few months. He, in inebriated condition, had raped her daughter several times. He also threatened the girl of dire consequences, if she revealed the matter to anyone," said One Town inspector P Umapathi, quoting the complaint lodged by the victim's mother.

The girl revealed the entire episode to her mother a few weeks ago, said the officer. Dhanaraju's wife, along with her daughter, then went to her sister’s house. On the suggestions by her relatives, the victim, along with her mother, lodged a police complaint.

"During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Dhanaraju has committed the crime. He has been booked under Section 376 (Rape) of the IPC and Section 3 of the POSCO Act. A police team has been formed to arrest Dhanaraju," said the inspector.

Meanwhile, several women’s organisations demanded a detailed probe into the case to punish the accused and raised concerns about alcohol related crimes in the city.
