VIJAYAWADA: Plans submitted by the consultants from Netherlands and Tata Consultancy Services engaged for designing inland waterways and reservoirs for the capital city Amaravati, were discussed in detail during CRDA review meeting at the Chief Minister's residence in Undavalli on Wednesday evening.
Disclosing the details to mediapersons, Municipal Administration minister P Narayana said Dutch consultants has submitted their plans for widening of three water channels in Amaravati -Kondaveeti Vagu (21.3 km), Pala Vagu (16.7 km) and gravitational canal (8 km) - to withstand the flow up to 22,000 cusecs discharge rate.
As per the plans, it would require 885 acres for Kondaveeti Vagu widening works, 433 acres for Pala Vagu and 217 acres for Gravity Canal. As it is part of the master plan and the land has been already acquired, there will not be any problem.
Minister said there will be three reservoirs - Sakhamuru (50 acres), Nelapadu (450 acres) and Krishnayapalem (190 acres) to hold with a total storage capacity of 0.8 tmcft in addition to the canals with holding capacity of 0.31 tmcft.
Kondaveeti Vagu will be widened at base up to 75 meters from Undavalli to Krishnayapalem while the surface width would be 115 meters. Between Nelapadu to Ananthavaram, it will be 14 meters at base and 65 meters on the surface. In case of Palavagu base width will be 25 meters and surface width will be 25 meters.
Narayana said CRDA officials will now work on preparing estimates for the project and once it is completed they will invite tenders. The entire process is expected to take one month time and the works are to be completed before July-August before the rains make their presence, he said.
