Agrigold victims to hit streets to protest against government ‘apathy’

In a bid to intensify their agitation against the state government, Agrigold Customers and Agents Welfare Association will conduct a ‘Chaitanya Yatra’ from August 16 to September 17.

VIJAYAWADA: In a bid to intensify their agitation against the state government, Agrigold Customers and Agents Welfare Association will conduct a ‘Chaitanya Yatra’ from August 16 to September 17. A poster in this regard was unveiled by the association’s honorary president Muppalla Nageswara Rao here on Saturday. Addressing a press conference, Nageswara Rao alleged that the government’s apathy has forced them to take to the streets.

Though 142 customers have committed suicide in the last two years after the scam broke out, the government was still not inclined to resolving the issue quickly. Disclosing details of the yatra, Rao said that the protest would be flagged off at Ichapuram in Srikakulam District on August 16, and will pass through the coastal districts and culminate in a meeting at Anantapur on September 17.

He further demanded that officials follow the guidelines of the High Court and auction the assets of the company. Legal action should be taken against the family members of Agrigold chairman Avva Venkata Rama Rao who is stopping the officials from auctioning the company’s assets. Measures should also be taken by the government to sanction `1,180 crore to clear the payments of small depositors.

The government should also halt the auctioning of Sadavarte land in Chennai. Instead, it should construct buildings in the land, Rao demanded. Association secretary V Tirupathi Rao, deputy general secretary BV Chandrasekhar and others were also present on the occasion.
