VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday directed the officials concerned to take steps immediately to control the rising prices of onions and ensure that onions are available at rythu bazars every day across the State. The Chief Minister took stock of the situation during a teleconference conducted from his residence at Undavalli with agriculture and civil supplies commissioner, commissioner, marketing department and CEOs of rythu bazars. Taking serious note of allegations of hoarding of stocks by traders, he directed the officials of the marketing and civil supplies departments to conduct surprise checks and raids wherever there are complaints of hoarding of stocks and creation of artificial scarcity.

He also advised them to use 1100, the toll-free grievance redressal channel launched by the State government to receive complaints from citizens, and crack the whip on errant traders. “Wherever there are complaints of scarcity, use 1100 and supply the requisite quantities of onions,” he said.

He also instructed them to buy onions from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat to overcome the supply shortage. He further insisted that the officials review the situation every two hours to ensure that adequate stocks are available at all the rythu bazars.
