Bhavani Island to turn into national tourist spot soon

Art villages, handicraft centres, botanical garden, bird sanctuary have been proposed

VIJAYAWADA: Aimed at attracting more tourists, the State government is contemplating to prepare a master plan for the development of Bhavani Island in Krishna river. Boston-based CBT agency, which was appointed as consultancy, along with Mumbai-based Studio Pod Architecture will prepare the master plan.
The tourism department is contemplating to develop the major tourist destination in the capital region of Amaravati into a national-level tourist spot.

As per the master plan, officials are planning to set up art villages, handicraft centres and botanical garden in the island. A birds sanctuary and iconic structures will come up in the island while a major portion of the island will be left as swamp.

While conducting a review meeting with the officials and representatives of CBT consultancy and Studio Pod Architecture, Tourism and Cultural department secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena on Thursday said that the island would be developed without causing any damage to the natural environment of the island. He said that the development activities will not exceed 10 per cent of the total area of the island.
