VIJAYAWADA: With a view to sensitise passengers about maintaining cleanliness at railway stations, the Vijayawada division of South Central Railway (SCR) conducted a seminar on ‘Sanitation- Cleanliness at Railway Stations’ as part of the Swachh Pakhwada observance.Participating as chief guest for the seminar, Vijayawada Divisional Manager R Dhanunjayulu urged passengers to co-operate with the railway administration to keep the station premises and the trains neat and tidy.

He said, “SCR is taking all necessary steps to provide a hygienic atmosphere to the passengers. The railways alone cannot improve the sanitary conditions until it gets active support from the passengers.”
The Divisional Manager also sought the passengers to avoid unhygienic practices like spitting and urinating in the station premises. He said the passengers should use public convenience facilities provided in the stations. “People should also avoid throwing leftover food in the coaches and platforms, which deteriorates the sanitary conditions. They should also stop using toilets in the coaches when the trains are at the station,” he added.

Later, the officials also conducted drawing and painting competition for students on ‘Swachh Bharat’.
Prizes were distributed to the winners at a programme held in the evening. Additional Divisional Manager (ADRM) K Venugopal Rao and other officials were also present.
