Allocate special budget for protection of trees while laying new roads in cities: AP Legislative Assembly speaker Kodela

The programme aims to highlight the importance of trees and biodiversity for a greener tomorrow and also discuss various aspects related to tree transplantation.

VIJAYAWADA: “Special budget should be allocated for the protection of trees while laying or extending the roads,” said AP Legislative Assembly speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, during the inauguration of National seminar on Tree Transplantation held in the city on Saturday. He further said that public should take the responsibility in preserving the green cover in the State.Andhra Pradesh Urban Greening and Beautification Corporation Ltd (APUGBCL) in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation (APFDC), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and Amaravati Chapter jointly organised the National Seminar on Tree transplantation in Vijayawada on Saturday. The programme aims to highlight the importance of trees and biodiversity for a greener tomorrow and also discuss various aspects related to tree transplantation.

Rao said that every life form on the earth depends on trees. “Protection of trees is critical for maintaining ecological balance and citizens must come forward and focus on plantation. Every tree needs protection and with tree transplantation techniques, we can ensure that protection is being undertaken. Estimates for plantation and protection of species should be included in the budget allocated for road laying and other infrastructure developments,” added the Speaker. 

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Mayor Koneru Sreedhar highlighted the various initiatives undertaken by the Government to promote biodiversity and green cover in the city . “All these initiatives will go a long way in improving the quality of life and wellbeing and facilitate a healthier and greener tomorrow,” he added.Chandra Mohan Reddy, Managing Director, Andhra Pradesh Urban Greening and Beautification Corporation Ltd informed that the corporation is working closely with all the stakeholders in the State to promote and improve greenery in urban open spaces.
