SIT’s petition to reinvestigate Ayesha Meera case dismissed

The Fourth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Saturday dismissed the petition of Special Investigation Team (SIT)

VIJAYAWADA: The Fourth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Saturday dismissed the petition of Special Investigation Team (SIT) which sought the court’s permission to reinvestigate the murder case of pharmacy student Ayesha Meera.

According to sources, the Magistrate Court observed that the reinvestigation issue was not under its jurisdiction considering the technicalities that a writ petition is pending at the Hyderabad High Court.
With the court’s dismissal of the petition, the SIT is perplexed and will likely move High Court for further directions. The writ petition filed by the group of the activists is scheduled on August 31 for the next hearing.

The State government constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on August 4 for reinvestigating the murder case. According to the government order dated August 4 and under signed by Principal Secretary, the SIT will function under the supervision of Vijayawada Commissioner Police D. Gautam Sawang.
