Sepak Takraw championship kick-starts in Vijayawada

VIJAYAWADA: City Mayor Koneru Sreedhar called upon the youth to show interest on Sepak Takraw game which has the scope for bringing laurels to the State. Speaking at the inaugural function of the 5th South Zone Sepak Takraw championship which commenced at Dandamudi Rajagopal Rao (DRR) Indoor Stadium here on Monday, Sreedhar seeked the administrators of Sepak Takraw to introduce the game in the all the 28 municipal schools in the city. He reminded that VMC has been promoting sports and games among municipal school students by offering financial assistance to them to represent in State and National events. 

Municipal Commissioner J Nivas said that the city has a history of hosting various national and international fixtures. Moreover, the civic body has left no stone unturned in renovating the sports complexes across the city. ‘’Thanks to the administrators of Sepak Takraw for hosting the event and bringing talented players for the championship,” he said.

Earlier the students from Bishop Hazaraiah School took out a march past.  Sepak Takraw Federation of India president S R Prem Raj, secretary Yogender Singh Dahiya, Tamil Nadu Sepak Takraw Association secretary D Bala Murugan, SAAP officer-on-special duty P Ramakrishna, AP Sports Officer P Ravindranath, District Sports Development Officer B Srinivasa Rao and Krishna District Sepak Takraw Association chairman Bonda Srinivas Rao attended the function.
