VIJAYAWADA/ ELURU : The bandh called by BC Associations JAC in protest against Cabinet’s decision to include Kapus in BC list went off peacefully at Bhimavaram in West Godavari district on Tuesday.
The traders downed their shutters, even as banks and government offices remained closed. Commuters were hit hard as RTC buses stayed off the roads. The theatres too cancelled the noon shows. The BC activists took out a rally raising slogans against the State Cabinet’s decision to include Kapus in BC list. They resorted to road blockade and staged a dharna at Prakasam Chowk for over one hour disrupting traffic.   

Don’t fall into Oppn trap: Labour Minister
Asserting that the State government has no intention to damage the interests of Backward Classes, Labour Minister Pithani Satyanarayana said that the government had taken the decision to extend BCs reservation to Kapus as part of fulfilling the TDP’s poll promise. The minister, who is in the US, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said that he was aware of the apprehensions among the BCs. He said he would discuss the issue with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
