VIJAYAWADA: Crafts Council of AP, which successfully conducted a two-day textile show ‘Aakruthi Vastra’ in Visakhapatnam, will now organise a similar textile show in Vijayawada from December 9.
Disclosing details to media persons on Friday, joint treasurer of the council Jayasri and joint secretary Ranjana said the main objective of the two-day exhibition is to promote traditional handloom ware. “There is a misconception that handloom is not trendy. Infact, it is more eye catchy and here, at Aakruthi Vastra, we are trying to prove that. This is the platform where fashion designers and weavers come together, ” said Jayasri.

According to her, the proceeds from the textile show, which will have 40 stalls, will be used for the welfare of artisans and weavers by conducting workshops, health camps, skill training programmes and providing better equipment. “Our only aim is not to let weaving die for lack of encouragement. We want it to continue for posterity,” she said. The expo, which will be inaugurated by Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya, will have another attraction - Tolu Bommalata (Leather Puppets show) at 5:30 p.m. on both days.
