SRM University’s Amaravati campus is all set to launch School of Liberal Arts and Basic Sciences (SLABS). Under the SLABS, over 400 students will be admitted in the 2018 academic batch

VIJAYAWADA: SRM University’s Amaravati campus is all set to launch School of Liberal Arts and Basic Sciences (SLABS). Under the SLABS, over 400 students will be admitted in the 2018 academic batch in various programmes  like BA, BBA, B.Com and BSc courses.During the launching event held in Vijayawada on Wednesday, P Satyanarayanan, president of SRM University, announced that SLABs would be SRM Amaravati’s home for fundamental research, where free, open, and critical inquiry will be pursued across the disciplines. 

SLABS will have its first intake of students in 2018 and will offer courses BA, BBA, B.Com and B.Sc. programmes across 12 departments.“Today, we face increasingly complex issues and challenges, and for tackling these, we need multi-dimensional thought processes and problem-solving skills. Education needs focus on this and our aim is to help students develop such skills through liberal arts and sciences offered at SLABS. For this, we are looking at hands-on guidance from Prof.

Nicholas Dirks, given his background as a renowned anthropologist, and his rich experience in Liberal Arts. SRM SLABS also has a strong faculty base of international caliber,” said SRM  Amaravati president P Satyanarayanan. “As we launch SLABS, we are working to ensure that our undergraduate students will be the beneficiaries of the best set of experiences available anywhere in the country.

Through our programmes, students will learn to think out of the box in humanities and science,” said Nicholas Dirks, pro-chancelor, SRM Amaravati.The tuition fees for these courses start at `75,000 per semester and each programme of three years duration. The students can opt for a diploma or certificate programme too. The admission process is based on Class XII score.
