Naidu, Venkaiah inaugurate Rs 3,000 crore SRM University campus in Amaravati

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated SRM University, the first private university in Amaravati, on Saturday.

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated SRM University, the first private university in Amaravati, on Saturday. With an investment of `3,000 crore, the university has been established near Neerukonda village in the capital region on the 200 acres of land allotted by the State government. 

Addressing the gathering, Chandrababu Naidu said that the AP government is proud of SRM University, which completed the construction process in the capital region in just five months. “We are glad that SRM University is the first institution to be commissioned in Amaravati. The world-class education system of the varsity will definitely bring laurels to the State. Inauguration of SRM University is the first step in the process of making Andhra Pradesh a knowledge hub.

VIT University campus will also be inaugurated in August. Several other private universities will also come to Amaravati soon,” the Chief Minister said.Naidu also announced to give 100 acres of land in addition to the existing 200 acres to SRM University to set up medical college and hospital at the new Amaravati campus. 

“We will give priority to medicine along with IT education. I suggested the SRM University authorities to make the Amaravati campus the best campus in India by offering all the new courses being offered by the renowned universities in the world. Drawing inspiration from the SRM University, all the universities in Amaravati will be developed as ‘open universities’, with no gates and compound walls. Public can visit the universities anytime and access  libraries and gain knowledge,” he added.

Naidu said that he has only two lifetime goals: one is to construct Amaravati as one of the best cities in the world. 

The other is to complete Polavaram project and make Andhra Pradesh as the most sustainable State. “In the capital region, we are going to establish a huge park near Kondaveeti Vagu in the name of former minister the late MSS Koteswara Rao on 250 acres of land. We are developing a world class capital city to fulfil the dreams of every Andhraite. In fact, we are bringing back the lost Kohinoor diamond with a Kohinoor-shaped Assembly building,” the CM said. 


Free education to 13 girls 
Speaking on the occasion, T R Pachamuthu, founder and chancellor of SRM University, announced that the SRM group would offer free education to 13 girl students, one from each district of the State, who hail from poor or agriculture family. Apart from this, he also offered `5,000 scholarship for 100 students in the State who excel in sports. He said SRM will adopt all the villages in capital region and offer free medical services through medical camps and SRM hospital which would be ready in the next phase.

“We are investing `3,024 crore to offer best courses to around 50,000 students in the Amaravati campus. Around 326 students joined the SRM University in the first year. The construction of the buildings took place at a rapid pace and so far the construction in 12 acres has been completed. All the infrastructure is just as in those in foreign universities like MIT, Stanford etc. In future, the students need not go abroad in search of better education, they can opt for SRM. SRM is embracing a new method of learning, which is not seen in India,” he added.Union Minister for Urban Development and Housing M Venkaiah Naidu said that the glory of Amaravati and Andhra Pradesh has started with the inauguration of SRM University.
