Round-the-clock water supply in villages soon

Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Nara Lokesh directed officials to complete the project design and plan for supplying round-the-clock drinking water through taps to households.

VIJAYAWADA: Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Nara Lokesh directed officials to complete the project design and plan for supplying round-the-clock drinking water through taps to households in villages by the end of August. During a meeting with the Rural Water Supply (RWS) officials at the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi on Monday, he reviewed the water grid and supply of drinking water through taps.

After going through the data submitted by the officials, he instructed them to estimate the expenditure taking each mandal as a unit and take up the works in all districts after estimating the availability of water. He wanted the officials to ensure supply of continuous drinking water to households in at least four districts within two years. It may be mentioned here that the State cabinet approved to set up Andhra Pradesh Drinking Water Supply Corporation to supply protected water.

The government aims to supply at least 100 litres of protected drinking water to every household and to monitor the supply of drinking water in villages, urban local bodies and industries. The corporation would mobilise financial resources and funds from the government and other sources for maintenance.
