Over 25 unrecognised schools fined in Vijayawada

VIJAYAWADA: Raids on unrecognised schools across the Vijayawada city are still undergoing and the officials have fined over 25 schools till date.

Over 25 schools are yet to be inspected. District Education officials have imposed a fine of `1 lakh on many unrecognised schools.

As many as 71 unrecognised schools were identified in Vijayawada city. All those schools were served with notices in April-May and asked to respond to the notices by May 31. Of the total 71 schools, 55 schools have failed to respond to the notices.  Of the 55 identified unrecognised schools, officials have raided 27 schools and fined the school managements. But as many as 28 schools are yet to be inspected.
On Saturday, the officials imposed a fine of `1 lakh on Jack and Jill school at  Satyanarayanapuram in the city.

Generally, the department sends notices to the administrations of unrecognised schools to apply for recognition without fail prior to the beginning the academic year.

If violated, a fine of Rs 10,000 per day will be imposed and after 10 days, the penalty would be increased to Rs 1 lakh per day. Those schools which don’t have proper infrastructure as per the guidelines would served with closure notice.

 “Strict action will be taken against managements for running the schools, flouting norms. If they failed to respond even after imposing fine, those schools will be closed. We are still conducting raids on the identified schools in the city,” said N Ravi Kumar, Deputy DEO of Krishna district.
