Andhra Pradesh government to initiate Amrutha Hastam

Krishna district Joint Collector Gandam Chandrudu instructed officials of district women and child welfare to initiate Amrutha Hastam scheme in all anganwadi centres from July 1.

VIJAYAWADA: Krishna district Joint Collector Gandam Chandrudu instructed officials of district women and child welfare to initiate Amrutha Hastam scheme in all anganwadi centres from July 1. In this program, healthy food would be supplied to all the pregnant women and lactating mothers who are registered under the anganwadi centres.

During the review meeting held on Wednesday, Chandrudu said that the State government has taken this project to reduce malnutrition levels among pregnant women and also to eradicate post natal deaths taking place in the district. Till date, the project has been implemented in five centres of the district and 16 more centres have to start the project by July 1.

He further said that over 42,000 women are benefitting from this scheme and after more centres in the district take up this scheme, it would benefit more women. In this scheme, the pregnant women and lactating mothers would receive healthy meals consisting of Milk,eggs, dal, Vegetables, Sambar and leafy vegetables. Along with the meal, the women would also receive iron and calcium tablets to fight against haemoglobin deficiency. A two day workshop would be conducted for Anganwadi workers and supervisors on the Amrutha Hastam scheme on June 27 and 28.
