Seven arrested with 200 kg ganja in Vijayawada

VIJAYAWADA: Police on Thursday arrested seven persons while they were smuggling 200 kg of ganja from Visakhapatnam Agency to Parakala of Nijamabad in Telangana State.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) G Pala Raju said that on a tip off, the city task force and Bhavanipuram police arrested the accused while the ganja was loading in a car at Gollapudi One Center.

Four of the accused, G Bhaskara Rao, Sangi Venkataramana, Kintari Bhaskara Rao and I Mahesh Babu, have purchased the ganja from tribals. They have many other cases registered against them, police said. 

The four have agreed to supply 200 kgs of ganja to A Ramu and G Yadav Prasad of Warangal.  The ganja was supposed to handover in Parakala of Nizamabad. 

Police said the car in which they were travelling in met with a accident at Chebrolu in West Godavari district. Later, they called up another cab driver K Srinivasa Rao and offered good price for transporting the ganja.

However, the accused have changed their plan and decided to shift the ganja to another car in Vijayawada. The police arrested the accused while they were shifting the ganja bags to the car at Gollapudi One Center. 

The police also seized a Skoda car. 

The arrested were remanded, DCP Pala Raju said.
