VIJAYAWADA: Affairs in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly during the winter session to be commenced from Friday, is expected to go smooth without any heated arguments and adjournments as the principal opposition party YSR Congress has decided to boycott it. However, leaders of the BJP, which is an ally of the ruling TDP in the State, have decided to raise the public issues, taking advantage of the absence of the principal Opposition party.

Though there were no instances of all the legislators of the Opposition party boycotting the entire session of the legislative bodies in the history of combined Andhra Pradesh, the YSRC had decided to boycott the session demanding action against all the 21 defected YSRC MLAs, who joined the ruling Telugu Desam.
However, the ruling TDP leaders on one hand are finding fault with the opposition party for boycotting the session, they all set to make use of the session to explain to the people about the welfare and development schemes being implemented by the government on the other as there will not be any interruptions from the opposition party.

Meanwhile, the BJP, with a strength of four MLAs, is  gearing up to raise several crucial issues in the House. (Two of the four MLAs are ministers)“The prime objective of the Legislative bodies is to make meaningful debates pertaining to public. As the main opposition party is not attending the session, now, the task of highlighting the anti-people decisions being taken up by the State government, despite being an ally, lies on us,’’ said a BJP leader.

When contacted by Express, BJP floor leader P Vishnukumar Raju said the BJP would raise issues of public importance in the House in the absence of the main opposition YSRC.
The questions that BJP leaders likely to ask are the inquiry of Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the land scam in Visakhapatnam, spread of dengue fevers, crime against women, student suicides, usage of Visakha steel in the construction of capital Amaravati and Polavaram projects and issues related to the enhancement of wages of home guards.
