VIJAYAWADA: Legislators of the ruling TDP and its ally BJP have found fault with the government over the plan to implement English Medium in Municipal Schools.During the Question Hour in the Assembly on Wednesday, Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana mentioned that students from Telugu medium background failed in securing good ranks in Eamcet.

He said that the instances of students from Telugu medium securing below 10,000 rank in Eamcet are very few. He said while one student from Telugu medium got below 1,000 rank in 2017, another student got a rank between 6,001 to 7,000 in 2016 and two students got ranks between 7,001 to 9,000 in Eamcet in 2015. At this juncture, ruling party MLAs T Sravan Kumar, M Venugopal Reddy, D Narendra Kumar and BJP floor leader P Vishnu Kumar Raju felt that the minister was degrading the Telugu language by stating that students from Telugu medium failed to secure ranks and sought the government to review the decision of making English Medium compulsory in Municipal schools.

Though, the minister replied that English medium is only optional and the question of neglecting Telugu will not arise, the members raised objection and wanted the House to debate the issue. However, the Speaker Rao took up the further proceedings after suggesting the members to come up in different format to take up a debate.
