VIJAYAWADA: Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar directed officials to take steps for starting the works of Jakkampudi Economic Township at the earliest and ensure economical development of the local people.
During a meeting with officials of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) and Revenue departments at his chamber in the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi on Thursday, the chief secretary said setting up small scale industries in the township will help improve the livelihood of economically weaker families.

Besides directing officials to call tenders and start the works of Jakkampudi Economic Township at the earliest, Kumar also wanted them to prepare proposals for setting up similar township in the temple town of Tirupati.

Informing that tenders have been called for constructing 10,000 houses in the G + 3 model in the first phase,  MAUD Principal Secretary R Karikal Valaven said that the tenders would be finalised at the earliest and the construction works would strat soon.AP Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation vice-president Ramanatham said that the master plan is ready for the township. Krishna district Joint Collector Vijaya Krishnan and others were present.

n Officials received 280 applications to set up small scale industries in Jakkampudi township
n Most of industrialists showed interest to set up pollution-free industries in the township
n Government transferred 234 acres of land to Vijayawada Municipal Corporation for setting up the township
n December 15 - deadline for finalising tender 
n 10 lakh square feet - area required to build a three-storeyed and a five storeyed buildings

Industries to come up in Jakkampudi Township include offset printing, automobile engineering, book binding, packaging, Information Technology, jute, electrical and electronics, footwear companies.
